As China opens to international trade and travel, providing accommodations for a new group of travelers has become critical. The Regent Hotel and Regent Residences are designed with this in mind, providing not only a world-class hotel but also residences for guests to live in for extended periods.
This preliminary master plan has been completed to evaluate a specific site located on Huai-Hai- Road, one of Shanghai's most fashionable shopping and commercial thoroughfares. An additional master plan is being developed for a different site that is also on Huai-Hai Road.
The Regent Complex comprises two parts: a 400-room hotel tower and a lower-scaled residential tower of 200 service apartments. There are separate entrances and elevator systems for each of these functions. The two are linked at the site's most public corner. As the building turns the corner, the ground level opens completely to allow access into the site's park-like interior.
