The 30-story, 250,000 square foot Allied Tower responds appropriately to its prime location of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in both materials and architectural form. The architectural form has a 12-story street wall with a 15-floor main tower rising above. Three terraced office floors provide a transition between the street wall and the main tower. Crowning the tower is an all-glass three-story penthouse with a private elevator. The corner of the tower facing Fifth Avenue and 57th Street is chamfered to unite these two facades.
Along East 57th Street, the architects organized the retail section of the building in a dramatic four-story component with street level entrances on both Fifth Avenue and East 57th Street. The office lobby is located along the eastern edge of the site, on East 57th.
Acknowledging the important site, the architects chose only the finest materials. The exterior skin of the building is French Magny limestone. Brushed stainless steel frames all the glass in the façade. Special lighting integrated into the limestone at the base of the office tower, as well as the glass crown, will give the building a dramatic presence at night.
